FAQs

Q. What qualifies a sub-contractor to be registered under the Umbrella scheme?

A. The subcontractor must be paid at a rate of at least £8.00/hr, in order to meet National minimum wage requirements.

Q. What are the deadlines for submission of payroll information?

A. We aim to have all our information received and processed by close-of-play on Wednesdays, so that payment can be made to sub-contractors on Fridays, via BACS. However, we also aim to provide flexibility to our clients; information received after this point will be processed at best-speed so that Friday payments can still be made, usually through the "fast payments" banking system.

Q. What other information does KAPLA Limited need?

A. The sub-contractors must submit their claims for expenses and supporting information to us by the end of Wednesdays also, for consideration within that week's pay run. When registering for the first time, our sub-contractors must also submit documentation establishing their right to work in the UK according to UK Border Agency guidelines - details can be found at

Q. Are there any additional taxes for sub-contractors to pay?

A. KAPLA Limited will take care of all of an employee's "ordinary" tax obligations, i.e. PAYE income tax and National Insurance contributions - the declaration of any additional taxable earnings or capital gains to HMRC remains, however, their own responsibility.

Q. Can KAPLA Limited find work for sub-contractors?

A. Sub-Contractors are responsible for finding their own work - they must contact agencies themselves and let us know when they have found work. KAPLA Limited doesn't offer any work-finding service.
